In the name of the beauty of the planet, Guerlain looks to the future as it presents its new exhibition, Gaïa, what are you becoming? between 18 October and 8 November 2019 in its historic boutique, Guerlain House, at number 68, the Champs-Élysées. Part of FIAC’s ‘Private Itinerary’ since 2006, this annual event is a celebration of the long-standing links between Guerlain and the contemporary arts scene. The exhibition Gaïa, what are you becoming? brings together around twenty artists from all over the world who will shine a light on the precarious state of our natural world.A tribute to Gaia, goddess of the Earth in the Greek pantheon, the exhibition is a call to recognize that we all have a responsibility to act, confronted as we are by a challenge that concerns every one of us: protecting our planet to ensure the generations that come after us have a future to look forward to.The twenty or so participating artists take different approaches, some offering a lyrical paean to the wonders of nature, others condemning the impact of unbridled, reckless human activity upon the environment. Whatever their perspective, all seek to highlight the urgent need to re-examine how we relate to this world. Around thirty works by up-and-coming creatives and giants of the international arts scene rub shoulders in a pluri-disciplinary exhibition spread out over The House of Guerlain’s three floors, including installation art, photography, paintings and video.

GUERLAIN’S COMMITMENTTO SUSTAINABILITY

IN THE NAME OF BEAUTY

Since 1828, we have drawn inspiration from the natural world. Over the last 12 years and more, the protection of the environment has been central to everything we do. This commitment is driven by a sense of being duty-bound to act and to pass on that which is in our care to future generations. Even though individual team members know they may only have a small part to play in turning this commitment into reality, it’s something they’re all deeply passionate about.

ACTING TODAY FOR THE SAKE OF TOMORROW
We are in the business of making perfumes and beauty products of exceptional quality. As such, we work tirelessly to safeguard, improve and pass on this unique tradition to future generations. In a similar vein, Laurent Boillot, Guerlain President and CEO, launched the company’s corporate social and environmental responsibility programme in 2007. This has become a key plank of Guerlain’s vision for the future.Guerlain has progressively reduced its environmental impact and improved its social performance whilst simultaneously boosting business growth – sustainable development being an extremely effective driver of innovation and creativity. From product design to product distribution, the sourcing of raw materials and the manufacturing processes at our French production sites in Chartres and Orphin, our programme encompasses every team role and every product.Guerlain’s commitment to sustainable development is directed by its own Board of Directors advised by a Steering Committee comprising representatives from the company’s various specialist divisions. This same commitment is shared by our employees, clients and suppliers.
Twelve years into our commitment to sustainability and we are more determined than ever to pursue this goal – and to do so with an increasingly ambitious future vision. By 2020, 100% of our products will be manufactured according to eco-design principles. By 2028, our carbon footprint will be neutral.

OUR 4 KEY CHALLENGES
Guerlain’s sustainable development strategy is built around four key challenges, each with their own ambitious objectives. Many initiatives have already started and begun to bear fruit as a result:
– Promoting biodiversity, especially in relation to bee populations. Bees are keystone species and a symbol of the firm.
– Making 100% of our new products using eco-design principles. Delivering transparency at every stage, from manufacturing processes to disposal.
– Reducing our impact on the climate by aiming to be carbon neutral by 2028 – in time for the company’s 200th anniversary.
– Standing shoulder to shoulder with all women, promoting female self-esteem and inclusive beauty.
